ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audit
An ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audit is the most popular type, widely available and is useful for evaluating and developing most energy projects… lighting measures and controls, basic HVAC measures, motor upgrades including variable frequency drive applications, replacement of inefficient equipment with energy efficient alternatives, building envelope measures, renewable energy options, etc. A Level 2 begins with an Energy Star PEA but requires a more rigorous analysis of utility bills and a closer on site inspection of the facility and mechanical systems. Implementation cost, savings, payback, and life-cycle cost data are provided for recommended measures… it’s a qualitative and quantitative analysis. G-ENERGY offers two types of ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audits. |
The Level 2 (GAEP) employs generally accepted engineering practices and is spreadsheet-driven in calculation methodology to estimate energy savings. ASHRAE handbooks provide the basis for most formulae and calculations, as well as other accepted industry standards. We call this our ASHRAE Level 2 Commercial Energy Audit. Typical audit cost is $1500 to $5,000 depending on building size.
The Level 2 (ASEAM) option utilizes software developed through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). ASEAM uses modified bin methodology and a basic DOE-2 format to perform a whole building simulation… a computer model of a facility is developed according to extensive data gathered on site, annual utility usage, and weather files for the specific location. The computer model is tested and revised for accuracy, and is then modified with energy saving measures to determine their impact. The computer simulations are the basis for the energy analysis data used to generate the report. This is a more rigorous and time consuming process, more expensive, but generally more accurate (for energy projects where technical accuracy is critical). We call this analysis our ASHRAE Level 2 Comprehensive Energy Audit. Typical audit cost is $2500 to $10,000 depending on building size.
